Google End Support For NOODP Robots Directive & DMOZ Description

Finally Google has announced that it will no longer support using description and title from one of the old directory website DMOZ. Though, it was officially closed a few month ago. So, for Google to use title and description from the dead directory does not make sense.

Google should stop using support from this directory years ago, because this directory was not able to keep their links updated. That might be the reason that causes DMOZ directory to shut down.

Officially Google said:

With DMOZ now closed, we've stopped using its listings for snippeting, so it's a lot more important that webmasters provide good meta descriptions, if adding more content to the page is not an option.

Google also said that after closing of DMOZ directory, NOODP directory is already no-op. Google began supporting the noodp directive in 2006 and used DMOZ descriptions since then. So, this is one of the historical moment for Google.
